Running Fan

A participant in an upcoming art show in Beijing has been dubbed “Running Fan” for his cowardly behavior during the Sichuan earthquake.  Apparently, he ran out of a classroom of children during the quake and abandoned his students.  He had a very logical explanation for his behavior:

Mr. Fan defended his actions on his blog, describing himself as someone “with a very strong sense of self-protection.”

In a further elaboration, he said:

At such a life-and-death moment, I would only give up my life for my daughter. I would not do it for other people, even my mother.

Helluva guy.  A regular foxhole buddy.  Fortunately, his school didn’t collapse and his students were not hurt.  But the Chinese population has been highly critical of him, which has made the art show pretty controversial.  In the U.S., he would have gotten his own reality show.
